The Indonesian Gamelan 30 Player Budget Buddies Pack is ideal for class groups of pupils aged 6 and above, as well as for community groups of all ages. This budget-friendly Gamelan set provides a great way to introduce students and community members to the world of Indonesian Gamelan music.

This compact pack includes all the necessary instruments to get your Gamelan ensemble up and running, ready for playing, performing, and composing. It’s an excellent choice for schools and groups with limited budgets or those needing portability.

Included are 14 large instruments: 3 Gongs, a Balinese drum, a 4-pan Bonang (for two players), and 9 metallophones, along with 15 pairs of Ceng Ceng (Balinese cymbals) for keeping time and marking accents. The pack provides a wide range of authentic Gamelan sounds, making it easy to divide the group into pairs (each with a larger and smaller instrument).

The three sizes of metallophones are decorated in traditional red, blue, and gold, with metal keys suspended from bamboo poles over individual sound chambers, giving a 3-octave range. These instruments are made in Bali, Indonesia. The metallophones in this budget set use recycled metal for the keys and have low-cost wooden casings, but maintain the same Gamelan Gong Kebyar Pelog Selisir tunings as the Standard and Premium models, ensuring authenticity.

The Balinese drum is constructed from solid jackfruit wood with two cow skin heads and tuning knots, while the Gong features a bronze centre for improved resonance.

Special modifications have been made for classroom use. The metal Gong stands can be disassembled for easy movement, and the metallophone casings have smooth finishes with rubber bases to protect the floor.

For storage and transport, special Gamelan storage/carry bags are available (sold separately), helping to prolong the life of the instruments and ensuring they can be moved safely for outside events.

Also included are two teaching guides by Andy Gleadhill: ‘Indonesian Gamelan’ and ‘Percussion Buddies’. The Indonesian Gamelan book will guide you through the basics to your first performance in just 10 lessons, and includes repertoire for a year or more of learning. The Percussion Buddies book offers ideas for developing percussion accompaniments for Gamelan, drumming, choral, ukulele, or any ensemble.
